{"id":947,"date":"2014-07-28T11:39:22","date_gmt":"2014-07-28T11:39:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.soundislamchina.org\/?p=947"},"modified":"2015-05-31T21:25:50","modified_gmt":"2015-05-31T21:25:50","slug":"gedimu-dhikr-at-the-chengjiao-mosque-%e5%9f%8e%e8%a7%92%e5%af%ba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.soundislamchina.org\/?p=947","title":{"rendered":"Gedimu dhikr at the Chengjiao Mosque (\u57ce\u89d2\u5bfa)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.soundislamchina.org\/?p=947\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Gedimu <i>dhikr <\/i>at the Chengjiao Mosque (\u57ce\u89d2\u5bfa)<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Recorded by Rachel Harris, 6.40am, 28 March 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The Gedimu, literally \u201cold teachings\u201d from the Arabic <i>qadim<\/i>, represent the loose set of \u2018traditional\u2019 practices (Hanafi and Sunni) which were present in China before the arrival of the Sufi menhuan in the 17<sup>th<\/sup> century, and are unified only in opposition to the \u201cnew teachings\u201d of the organised Sufi menhuan and Wahhabis. In contemporary practice, however, they seem to have absorbed many aspects of Sufi ritual from their neighbours.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2d2d2d;\">At Friday morning prayers (\u5e2e\u76ee\u8fbe, from the Persian <i>bomdat namaz<\/i>), a large group of men perform a form of <i>dhikr<\/i> in which the declaration of faith: <i>l\u0101 <\/i>\u02be<i>il\u0101ha <\/i>\u02be<i>il <\/i>\u02be<i>all\u0101h<\/i> is recited repeatedly by the assembled worshippers who are seated in a large circle<i> <\/i>(<i>dayir <\/i>, \u5750\u5708).
