Evening call to prayer heard from the North Mountain ( 北山 ) above Linxia city
Recorded by Ruard Absaroka, 7pm, 28 March 2014.
Just to the north of the Muslim quarter of Linxia, with its densely packed mosques, lies a Daoist temple complex which winds its way up the hill. Almost deserted on this afternoon apart from a few workmen, the sounds of the city drifted up to the top of the hill: the amplified call to prayer mingled with fire crackers from the Han Chinese new town, perhaps celebrating a shop opening or a funeral.
